SAP Connection

This page provides information on how to connect Xtract Universal.iQ to an SAP source system.

Connection Methods

Xtract Universal.iQ supports the following connection methods to SAP systems:

Authentication Methods

Xtract Universal.iQ supports the following authentication methods for SAP connections:

  • Plain login using SAP credentials of an SAP system or dialog user.
  • Secure Network Communication (SNC) using credentials via basic authentication and encrypted communication.

Warning

Missing Authorization.
To establish a connection to SAP, the access to general authority objects must be available. Adjust the SAP Authority Objects accordingly.

Create an SAP Connection

To create a new connection to an SAP system:

  1. Open the Connections menu.
  2. Click [Add Connection].
  3. Enter a unique name in the Connection Name field, e.g., the name of your SAP system.
  4. Select SAP RFC from the Connection Type dropdown. The corresponding settings open.
  5. Enter the system details of your SAP system in the system settings. You can find input values in the properties of the SAP Logon Pad or you can request them from your SAP Basis team.

  6. Enter the SAP credentials of an SAP system or dialog user in the authentication settings.

    Tip

    To pass valid SAP credentials during runtime, activate the option Request credentials from callers when running services. To use this option, ensure that anonymous access is enabled in the Access Control menu.

  7. Use the toggle in the authentication settings to switch between plain authentication and Secure Network Communication (SNC) for an encrypted connection.

    Note

    SNC authentication requires additional settings in Xtract Universal.iQ as well as in the SAP system, see SNC Authentication with Xtract Universal.iQ.

  8. Click [Test Connection] to validate the connection parameters. A status message opens in the bottom right corner of the window.

  9. If the connection is successful, click [Save].

The connection is now listed in the Connections menu.

Next, create a new service that uses the SAP connection or assign the SAP connection to an existing service.

Edit an SAP Connection

To modify an existing SAP connection:

  1. Open the Connections menu.
  2. Select an SAP connections.
  3. Click [ Edit]. The connection settings open.
  4. Make the necessary changes.
  5. Click [Save].

The SAP connection is updated. Services that use the connection are affected by the update.

Delete SAP Connections

To delete an SAP connection that is not in use anymore:

  1. Open the Connections menu.
  2. Select one or more SAP connections.
  3. Click [...More > Delete]. A confirmation window opens.
  4. Click [OK] to delete the connection.

The SAP connection is removed from the Connections menu. Services that still use the connection stop working.

Restrict Access to SAP Connections

You can set up access restrictions to an SAP connection to ensure that the connection can only be modified by trained users. For more information, see Connection Level Access.

Connection via Router

To access the SAP source system (Application server or Message server) via an SAP router, set the router string before the SAP host name. For more information about SAP routers, see SAP Help: SAP-Router.

Example

If the application server is hamlet and the router string is /H/lear.example.com/H/, set the host property to /H/lear.example.com/H/hamlet.
