Mass Edit Entities

This page shows how to update multiple Entities by importing an Excel file. Importing modifications using Excel files enhances productivity.

Prerequisites

Create an Excel file that contains:

  • One row for each Entity you want to update.
  • A header row with properties or column names.
  • A column that can be used as an identifier to find matching Entities in Enterprise Glossary. The identifier can be the technical name, the UID or the description of the Entity / source object.

Update Multiple Entities

To update multiple Entities:

  1. In the navigation bar, go to Entities. A list of all available Entities opens.
  2. Click Mass Edit in the upper left corner of the Entity overview. The window "Select Excel File for Import" opens.
  3. Click [Select a file] or drag and drop an Excel file from your computer into the window.Upload the
  4. Once the file is uploaded, click [Continue]. The import settings open. The Excel columns are displayed on the left side and the import settings are displayed on the right side.
  5. Select the source system of the Entities you want to update from the Connection dropdown.
  6. Select the object type of the Entities you want to update from the Template dropdown. The content of the template is displayed at the bottom of the import settings.
  7. Select one of the following identifier types used to match the Entities with Excel rows:
    • Technical Name
    • UID
    • Description
  8. Select the Excel file column that contains the identifier from the Column dropdown.
  9. Optional: Enable Directory Shortcuts, see Directory Links.
  10. Verify the field mappings in the template displayed at the bottom of the import settings. You can select a column for every custom field. If the name of a column corresponds with the name of a field, it is assigned automatically.
  11. Click Start Import.

The system updates the selected Entities with the values from the Excel file.
